Nippon Ham Fighters are the first team to record 7 shutouts during a 9 game stretch

by on Jun.06, 2011 @ 8:39 am, under NPB

When Masaru Takeda shutout the Yomiuri Giants last night, 5-0, he helped the Fighters become the first team in NPB history to record 7 shutouts over a 9 game stretch.  The 1943 and 1965 Kyojin teams (Yomiuri) recorded 7 shutouts in 10 games, but no team had ever done it in 9 games, until now.  With 11 shutout victories already in the books, the Fighters also have a chance to break their single season shutout victory total of 21 (set in 1961, back when they were known as the Toei Flyers).
