CL News and Notes: Hitoki Iwase (HIR) now just 1 save away from tying NPB record

Chunichi Dragons

Hitoki Iwase recorded his 285th save tonight and is now just 1 save away from tying the NPB record for career saves (currently held by Shingo Takatsu).

Hanshin Tigers

Akinobu Mayumi popped his head above the dugout roof and stared into the crowd (for about 10 seconds) during yesterday's game after a fan started calling for the players to quit in the 8th (in addition to Mayumi quitting).  Mayumi told reporters that he tries to shutout the fans that heckle him, but has a hard time ignoring the jabs at players.  That came to a head last night when he actually popped his head above the dugout to see which fan was talking trash about the players.

Yomiuri Giants

The Giants were shutout for the second time in as many days today.  That's a first since 4/2009 when they were shutout three games in a row (4/26 - 4/29).  And a first at Tokyo Dome since 9/1997.

Michihiro Ogasawara worked out with the Ichi-gun team today for the first time since his injury.  The coaches were satisfied with his progress and will probably activate him on the 8th.

The Giants announced that Takahito Kudo was selected to become a tourism ambassador for Kuroishi, Aomori (his hometown).

Yakult Swallows

Kazuhiro Hatakeyama collected 3 RBI tonight and became the first player in the CL to drive in 30 runs this season.

Hiroshima Carp

Team owner Hajime Matsuda met with Kenjiro Nomura for about 30 minutes today in order to talk "strategy."

Yokohama Bay Stars

The Bay Stars decided today that they will indeed activate Norihiro Nakamura on the 8th.  He is scheduled to join the Ichi-gun team for practice tomorrow.  In 4 Ni-gun games, Nakamura went 3-for-16.
