The Hawks worked out at Yahoo Dome today. Nobuhiro Matsuda was given the day off -- he hasn't been feeling well since Thursday (6/9).
Hitoshi Tamura isn't allowed to do anything that might make him sweat right now out of concern that it might cause an infection in the stitched up laceration on his left hand. The Hawks also figure it might be about a month before he can actually swing a bat.
Until his return, the Hawks will probably shift Senichi Uchikawa from LF/CF to RF/CF and play Nobuhiko Matsunaka or Jose Oritz in LF.
No run support: Kazuhisa Makita has allowed just 2 runs in his last 2 starts. That's over a span of 19 inning. The offense? Just one run in each of the starts.
Yusei Kikuchi worked out with the Ichi-gun roster at Seibu Dome today. He also threw 36 pitches in the bullpen (under the watchful eye of Hisanobu Watanabe). Kikuchi has been spending most of his time working on getting bigger and has managed to add 4kg (he now weighs 87kg).
Chiba Lotte Marines
Norifumi Nishimura spent about an hour time working directly with Takumi Kobe during practice today (they worked out at the Inage indoor training facilities while the rest of the team practiced at QVC Marine). Said Norifumi, "He should get at bats as a left-handed bat off the bench. But he hasn't been producing lately and we really need him to hit."
The Marines tried to lighten things up during practice today. Toshiaki Imae also stayed back after general workouts for about 40 minutes of extra BP.
Nippon Ham Fighters
Masaru Takeda and Hisashi Takeda visited an elementary school in Sapporo today and spent some time with 667 students.
Chihiro Kaneko will likely start tomorrow's game against the Yomiuri Giants.
Takahiro Okada took part in practice today. Seems his knee is fine -- he banged it against the wall in right while on defense in the 10th inning of last night's game.
The Eagles announced today that they'll be hosting Hoshino Manager Day at Kleeenex Stadium on the 29th. A number of events are planned. Memorabilia from Senichi Hoshino's career will also be on display.
The team will also be giving away same-day tickets to any fan with the last name Hoshino or the first name Senichi in their name (only the reading of the Kanji has to be the same).
