I wonder if Yokohama’s dumb free agent signing will get a hit off their dumb trade. Statistics say he might, if he gets at least five at-bats today.

  1. Blacklabel

Yeah Terahara already beat them once and I know he cant wait for tonight.

Dumbest trade in recent history, they originally gave up Tamura to get Terahara, then they give him up for Yamamoto and a couple of guys stuck in minor league??

And yes dont get me started on the prized free agent. They say he is good for the clubhouse and bench mood, so good..leave him THERE!

  2. Blacklabel

Ah let me be fair though. Baystars doing much better than expected. Consider the facts:

    * Their current DH was unemployed a few weeks ago.
    * Their prized free agent has “raised” his avg to .185
    * New pitcher they got for Terahara(will be All-Star this year) has 7 losses
    * The guy they didn’t want to keep is leading the Pacific League in hitting and has more RBI than anyone on the team
    * Miura, Ohka and Shimizu have only 6 starts with 24 innings pitched between all of them and no wins

Bringing all of that into consideration, the fact that they are just 3 to 4 games out of 3rd place is amazing!

Bit harsh to say they “didn’t want to keep” Uchikawa – as I understood it they couldn’t afford him and he couldn’t wait to get out of there anyway. It would have been a miracle if they’d have kept him around.

Taguchi is having a hell of a year. Who could have predicted that. Sakaguchi is ultra hot as well, his performance today was one of the best I’ve seen this year.

The Buffaloes were 8-14-1 before Taguchi was added to the active roster on 5/11. Since then, they’re 14-10-1.

Taguchi may not be the sole reason for the Buffaloes turning things around, but he has definitely helped.

I have not been following Orix closely (just to prove it I will admit I did not even know Taguchi was on the active roster), but I would bet their turnaround has a lot to do with the fact that they have had the pleasure of playing weak Central League teams during most of that 14-10-1 stretch. When they go back to playing Softbank and Ham on a regular basis, they will likely experience a different type of turnaround.

Playing the CL has definitely been a big part. But it seems like every time the Buffaloes score a run, Taguchi is right in the middle of it (although perhaps you also meant the Taguchi’s success can also be attributed to playing against CL teams).
