by on Jun.16, 2011 @ 3:20 pm, under NPB

Softbank Hawks

Tsuyoshi Wada recorded his 97th career victory last night.

Seibu Lions

Tatsuya Oishi pitched an inning in relief (6th inning) during a Ni-gun against Lotte yesterday and retired the side in order: fly out to center, ground out to first, fly out to left.  He also topped out at 139km/h.  Oishi told reporters after his outing that he threw at about 60-70% and still had a long way to go with regards to balance and pitch accuracy / quality.

Chiba Lotte Marines

Yoshifumi Okada made three nice plays in the outfield last night against the Yomiuri Giants: 2nd inning, runner on first, 1 out, fly ball hit to right-center by Shinnosuke Abe (leaping catch into the wall); 5th inning, runner on first, 2 out, fly ball hit to left-center by Hayato Sakamoto (running catch near the wall); and 8th inning, runner on first, 2 out, fly ball to right-center by Michihiro Ogasawara (diving catch).

Shota Ishimine started using a smaller bat when Inter-league play started (he wanted more control): from 34 inches to 33.5 inches and from 910 grams to 900 grams.

Nippon Ham Fighters

Yuki Saito worked out at Kamagaya today.  He did not throw in the bullpen and instead other things like trunk strengthening exercises and running in the outfield.  His next Ni-gun rehab start will likely come on the 21st against Yomiuri (at Kamagaya).  Saito is expected to toss a bullpen session on the 19th.

Rakuten Eagles

After tossing a shutout last night, Masahiro Tanaka's ERA dropped to 1.19 (11 ER over 83.1 innings of work).  His WHIP is also at 0.78 (58 H, 7 BB).

Senichi Hoshino invited Shinichiro Koyama, Kanehisa Arime, and Takashi Kawai out to dinner on Tuesday night in Hiroshima.

Gen, thanks for posting the Okada videos. I couldn’t see the second catch as it was right in front of me and I couldn’t find the replays online earlier.

It’s too bad the Central League doesn’t believe in posting video highlights online!

You should probably thank the actual poster of the video. I only provided the link. :)

But those three catches were pretty sweet.
