Hirokazu Ibata was left out of the starting line-up tonight after playing in every inning of every game since the start of the season.  Ibata has been struggling at the plate this year and is currently 37-for-170 (.218/.278/.247).

Hanshin Tigers

Tomoaki Kanemoto worked out at Koshien Stadium today -- he did some light running and took some BP.  He'll also take some fielding practice tomorrow.  For now, it seems his right foot is doing ok.

Yomiuri Giants

Hirokazu Sawamura threw 50 pitches (all fastballs) in the bullpen today in preparation for a possible start against the Seibu Lions (Tokyo Dome) on Sunday.  He also ran, lifted weights, and worked on his bunting.

Tetsuya Matsumoto worked on his hitting at Giants Stadium during his day off today -- he spent about an hour taking soft-toss BP and hitting in the cages.  Matsumoto has played in 9 games since he was activated on the 3rd and has gone 0-for-7 with 2 strikeouts.

Hideki Asai started a Pro-Amateur Inter-league game against Sega Sammy (Industrial League) today and gave up 3 runs over 4 innings of work.  He also topped out at 143km/h.

The Giants are hopeful Asai will be able to eat some innings during the summer months.

Yakult Swallows

Norichika Aoki spent about 30 minutes taking extra BP after practices at Jingu today.  He later told reporters he needed to focus on using his lower body more effectively.

Hiroshima Carp

The Carp scored a run in the first inning tonight for the first time in 22 Inter-league gamesKenta Maeda also recorded his first victory in 8 starts and stopped a 3-game losing streak (his last victory came on 4/26 vs Hanshin).
