As mentioned by fighting ham, the Chiba Lotte Marines are close to a deal with 30-year-old INF Jose Castillo and could be ready to make an announcement of a deal some time early next week. It seems the Marines like Castillo for his bat and offensive potential and see him as a DH.
Castillo played for the Yokohama Bay Stars last season and has spent this season playing in Mexico for the Diablos Rojos del Mexico.
UPDATE 6/19 @ 1:25pm - Akira Ishikawa, director of team operations, told to reporters yesterday that Castillo was pretty much the only player available; that they were in the final stages of negotiations; and that he already passed his physical. A team announcement might not be made until the middle of the upcoming week.
Ishikawa is scheduled to fly out to the US today in order to check on a number of other players; he'll also see how Hayden Penn is coming along.
