CL News and Notes: Yomiuri Giants’ first double-digit run game comes in their 50th game of the season
A number of players (including Ryo Asai, Shunsuke, Ryota Arai, Kohei Shibata, and Hiroki Uemoto) will play in some Ni-gun games (beginning tomorrow) so that they can stay sharp over the few days (no Ichi-gun games until the 24th).
Tomoaki Kanemoto was held out of the starting line-up yesterday for the 4th straight game. He did take part in BP and fielding drills before the game. Is it because of his right foot? Or because of what the stockholders said?
Yasutomo Kubo started playing yesterday (around 30 meters for about 10 minutes). Said Kubo, "I didn't throw the ball too hard. It still feels a little strange. [Pitchers] throw off an incline so there's going to be more strain involved." He could toss a bullpen session sometime next week.
The Tigers will be juggling around the relief pitchers on the active roster, beginning with the likely demotion of Ken Nishimura today. Yusuke Kawasaki could be called up to add another lefty to the pen.
Naohisa Sugiyama started an Ikusei game against San-gun Softbank yesterday and gave up a run on 6 hits over 4 innings of work. Sugiyama is working his way back from tightness in his right forearm.
Jason Standridge's wife and kid were at yesterday's day. On the 16th, Standridge spoke to his father-in-law and was asked to throw a shutout if he pitched on Father's Day. On the 19th, he spoke to his father, who said just to pitch as he always does. A picture of Standridge and his kid have also made it into the number 2 spot on Sanspo's baseball photo ranking page.
Akinobu Mayumi was presented with the 2011 Best Father Yellow Ribbon Award (Pro Yakyu) before yesterday's game against the Rakuten Eagles.
The Tigers experienced a black-out at their indoor training facilities on Saturday because of the rain.
The Giants recorded their first double-digit run game in their 50th game of the season (and 17th at Tokyo Dome). Last year, they it in their 6th game of the year (and 5th at Tokyo Dome).
Shinnosuke Abe was using a slightly light bat yesterday: from his normal 900-910 gram bat to an 890-900 gram Terrmel Sledge model bat.
Of the 47 fastball Hirokazu Sawamura threw last night, 34 were fouled out / fouled off / strikes. And the game ball and accidentally thrown into the stands by Jonathan Albaladejo, but Sawamura told reporters he didn't mind so long as it made a fan happy.
Masanori Ishikawa's 9-game winning streak at Jingu Stadium came to an end yesterday.
