Softbank Hawks

Acting team owner Kazuhiko Kasai told reporters yesterday that he wanted to see Hiroki Kokubo record his 2,000th hit in a Hawks' uniform.

"Even if it takes him into next season, we want him to record his 2,000th hit in a Hawks uniform," said Kasai.

Kokubo is currently 84 hits away from 2,000 with 92 games left to play.

Chiba Lotte Marines

Lotte worked out at QVC Marine today.  Norifumi Nishimura watched the players take BP and later told reporters he felt the team wasn't doing a good job judging low pitches.

Nippon Ham Fighters

Yuki Saito started a Ni-gun game against Yomiuri today and gave up 3 runs on 7 hits over 7 innings of work.  He also topped out at 142km/h and threw 100 pitches.

Orix Buffaloes

Mike Hessman joined the Ichi-gun roster for practice today.  But with Alfredo Figaro, Aarom Baldiris and Seung-Yeop Lee already on the active roster, it won't necessarily be easy (especially if they go with 2 position players and 2 pitchers).

Akinobu Okada told reporters yesterday that this could be the year Tomotaka Sakaguchi wins a batting title.

"He's usually a slowly start, he usually does poorly during early spring, but he's coming around a lot more quickly compared to last year and the year before," said Okada.  "He could set his sights on 200 hits and the batting title."

Rakuten Eagles

Takeshi Yamasaki started his rehab today.  His workouts lasted about 2 hours and included running and playing catch.

Yamasaki's stitches are scheduled to come off on the 23rd.
