The Japan High School Baseball Federation (JHBF) announced on Tuesday (6/5) that 59 students on high school baseball teams (including 2 on soft baseball teams) transferred to news schools because of the earthquake / tsunami in northern Japan.
48 students were from Fukushima, 6 from Iwate, 4 from Miyagi, and 1 from Ibaraki
37 students transferred to a school in Fukushima, 3 each to schools in Iwate, Miyagi, Saitama, Tokyo, and Kanagawa, 2 to Fukui, and 1 each to Aomori, Yamagata, Ibaraki, Tochigi, and Chiba.
9 students were third years students, 26 were second year students, and 24 were first year students.
There was also a need for just one mixed team, made up of three high schools from Fukushima: Futaba Shoyo, Tomioka, and Soma Nogyo.
All 59 students are exempt from the rule that restricts transfer students from playing in official games for one year.
