Toru Hosokawa banged up his left knee on a close play at home plate in the 1st inning and was removed from the game before his at bat in the 2nd inning. Hosokawa had the knee iced after he was taken out of the game. He is scheduled to get the knee checked out at a hospital tomorrow.
Yasuyuki Kataoka stole his 250th career base in the 3rd inning of tonight's game against the Softbank Hawks. Kataoka is the 41st player in NPB history to reach the milestone. He also tweaked his right shoulder during a pick-off attempt and was removed from the game on defense in the 4th.
Hisashi Iwakuma started a Ni-gun game against Yokohama today and tossed three shutout innings. He also faced 14 batters, allowed 3 hits, walks 2, struck out 3, threw a total 48 pitches, and topped out at 145km/h. This was Iwakuma's first start since 5/17 (vs Yomiuri).
Said Iwakuma, "I was able to throw all my pitches. I was also able to strike some hitters out. My fastball was good. I'm not sure when my next start will be, but I will continue to work hard."
Takeshi Yamasaki started swinging the bat harder during BP today and told reporters he was relieved was he able to swing the bat harder without any pain.
