Scouts from 7 MLB teams (including the NY Yankees, NY Mets, San Francisco Giants, Houston Astros) were at last night's game to watch Yu Darvish pitch against the Chiba Lotte Marines.
Yankees scout Shoichi Kida - Looking at the overall picture, I think he pitched well.
Mets scout Isao Ojimi - If he comes to the US, he'll have to play in all kinds of conditions. Today, he did a pretty good job dealing [with the strong winds].
Astros scout Jeff Kusumoto - Your average pitcher would probably fall apart pitching in weather like this. The fact that he pitched well is evidence of his abilities.
Giants scout Shun Kakazu - He's the best pitcher in Japan.
When the press approached owner Hiroji Okoso with questions about Darvish heading to the US, he replied, "What kind of baseball career he leads moving forward... [The team] doesn't have any say in that." Okoso then added, "Improving the team, contracts... I leave all of this up to the front office. I'm sure they'll sit down and talk when the time is right. And it'll be up to the front office to decide what to do."
