Central League wants to improve quality of umpiring crew

by on Jul.12, 2011 @ 12:32 am, under NPB

The Central Legue held a board of directors meeting on Monday and Hiroshima Carp GM Kiyoaki Suzuki suggested ways to improve the quality of umpires by increasing competition and setting up an umpiring school.

The league also discussed implementing rules for designs on the field (like team logos, stadium names, and advertisements).

The NPB held an executive committee meeting on Monday and discussed what kind of special game they'll be adding to the schedule, beginning next season.   Amongst some of the suggestions: continuing to play a 3-game All-Star Series every year; playing a game before the start of the season with roster's made up of award winners from the previous season; pitting players 22 years and younger against each other; and creating two team with players selected based on where they were born (like west vs east).

They also decided that both leagues will begin the 2012 season on 3/30 next year.  The CL will begin with three games hosted by Chunichi, Hanshin, and Yomiuri (the top three teams from last year).  The PL is still undecided.

UPDATE 7/12 @ 2:00pm - It seems a U24 vs 2012 Rookies game is the top choice for the NPB's special game next season.  There also appears to be two main options for when the special game will be played: either before the season (some time in March) or during the All-Star break.
