PL News and Notes: Iwakuma, Yamasaki could return to Rakuten active roster on the 19th

Softbank Hawks

D.J. Houlton notched his 10th victory of the year last night.  For Houlton, it's his first double-digit win season since 2009 (2nd of his NPB career).  He also became the first foreign pitcher in franchise history to record double-digit wins before the All-Star break since Joe Stanka in 1964.

Chiba Lotte Marines

Toshiaki Imae snapped the team's 24 scoreless innings streak last night with an RBI single to center in the 4th inning.

Nippon Ham Fighters

Yuki Saito met with pitching coach Masato Yoshii yesterday in order to go over pitching strategies (specifically, Saito's problem with relying on breaking pitches too much).

Orix Buffaloes

The Buffaloes played the Nippon Ham Fighters last night.  Nippon Ham (the parent company) also happened to be sponsors for the game.  And that means the Fighters' mascot was on hand, a Nippon Ham ad was set up at Kyocera Dome, and Nippon Ham branded uchiwas (fans) were handed out to fans.

Hikaru Ito took a ball off his neck during Monday night's game against the Seibu Lions (it was a pitched ball that bounced off the ground) and experienced concussion-like symptoms.  The Buffaloes took Ito off the active roster yesterday because of the symptoms he displayed.

Rakuten Eagles

Takashi Kawai, Fuminori Yokogawa, Kensuke Uchimura, and Takahiro Shiomi, visited Yuriage Elementary School today and met with 128 students.

Akinori Iwamura ended D.J. Houlton's (SOF) bid for a no-hitter with an infield single in the 7th inning of last night's game (Munenori Kawasaki almost gloved it).

Takeshi Yamasaki played in a Ni-gun game against Yakult yesterday (starting DH, batting 4th) and went 0-for-3 (fly out to right, fly out to second, fly out to right).  He is scheduled to play in at least 6 Ni-gun games.

Hisashi Iwakuma started the Ni-gun game against Yakult yesterday and gave up 2 runs on 8 hits over 4 innings of work.  He also threw 69 pitches and topped out at 147km/h.  This was his first game since 5/17.  Scouts from the LA Angels, Houston Astros, Cleveland Indians, and Tampa Bay Rays were on hand to watch Iwakuma pitch.

Both players could return to the active roster as early as the 19th vs Nippon Ham (at Tokyo Dome).
