CL News and Notes: Hanshin Tigers will probably open basic negotiations with Matt Murton before the end of the month
The media learned yesterday that the Tigers may begin their attempt to persuade Matt Murton to stay in Japan as early as after the All-Star break. An unnamed source told reporters that they probably won't wait until the end of the season because they can't afford to, especially since they know Murton is also interesting in returning to the Majors next year.
Ikketsu Sho started a Ni-gun game against Hiroshima today and gave up 3 runs on 6 hits over 6 innings of wok.
Tsuyoshi Shimoyanagi started a Ni-gun game against Orix yesterday and gave up 2 runs on 6 hits over 4 innings of work.
Hisayoshi Chono became the Giants' 75th clean-up hitter in franchise history last night. That also meant Alex Ramirez's streak as a clean-up hitter came to end at 469 consecutive games.
Ramirez also wasn't in the starting line-up, likely due to an HBP he took off his right ankle Wednesday night (diagnosed with a contusion on his right foot yesterday). But he did make it into the game as a pinch-hitter in the 9th to extend his consecutive games streak to 985.
