The Japan Sports Association and the Japanese Olympic Committee are celebrating their 100th anniversary with a number of events, including a symposium that was held on Friday, entitled Tokyo / Sports in 21st Century and Challenge to the global Issues (sic). A celebration and reception will also be held on Saturday at the Grand Prince Hotel.
In the backdrop of this, the International Baseball Federation (IBAF) and the International Softball Federation (ISF) heads met on Friday in Tokyo to talk about how they can work together on bringing both sports back to the 2020 Olympics and agreed to continue their deliberations. They also touched on the possibility of setting up a unified federation that would handle baseball and softball.
IOC president Jacques Rogge and various other IOC delegates are also in Japan to attend the 100th anniversary celebrations. If there's time, the IBAF and ISF may try to meet with Rogge in order continue pushing their bid to make it back into the Olympics.
