CL News and Notes: Yakult Swallows only team in CL with record at or above .500

by on Jul.18, 2011 @ 1:39 pm, under NPB

Chunichi Dragons

Kazuki Yoshimi was taken off the active roster yesterday.  While the team has not mentioned why, it seems he may have suffered an injury of some sort to his right shoulder or elbow.  There's a chance he might also be kept out of the All-Star series.

Hanshin Tigers

Since Takahiro Arai returned to the clean-up spot on the 16th, he has gone 5-for-10 with 2 doubles, 2 homers, 4 runs, and 6 RBI.  Matt Murton has excelled back at lead-off as well: 7-for-11 with 1 double, 1 homer, 3 runs, and 4 RBI.  And Keiichi Hirano returned to the 2-hole and has gone 5-for-9 with 2 runs.

Daiki Enokida denied fatigue had anything to do with his sub-par outing last night: 0.1 IP, 40 NP, 5 BF, 3 H, 1 BB, 2 R, 2 ER.

Kai-Wen Cheng was taken off the active roster yesterday but could find himself back at Ichi-gun after the All-Star break.

Yakult Swallows

With the Chunichi Dragons losing last night, the Swallows are now the only team in the CL with a record at or over 500.

Hiroshima Carp

Akihiro Higashide was held out of last night's game against the Chunichi Dragons because of tightness in his left hamstring.  Higashide tweaked the hamstring while running the bases on Friday.
