A little puzzling. Barden was a good utility guy. Not noted for power at all though.

Nikkan Sports mentions that the Carp went after Barden not for power, but because they think he can hit for average. And it seems they’re thinking of batting him in the 6-hole.
They also like that he can play the OF and INF.

He is a good fielder, and I bet he will hit for average. I saw him play a few dozen times. He always seemed to be the 26th man. If given a chance I’m sure he would have had a pretty decent career as a utility player. He is also hard-nosed type player. Good luck to him!
