Alex Cabrera will likely be added to the active roster today. Cabrera told reporters yesterday that he'll work his way back into the starting line-up by being a pinch-hitter first (Rakuten Eagles' series; 7/26 - 7/28) and then back as DH (beginning with the Nippon Ham Fighters' series; 7/29 - 7/31). He also added his leg was at about 60-70%.
While the Hawks will likely turn to Brian Falkenborg to act as closer while Takahiro Mahara recovers from a muscle strain near his right shoulder, they also realize he won't be able to do it all on his own -- they want to avoid using Falkenborg too much (like pitching him 3 days in a row) due to his history with right elbow problems. That means they'll likely go with a closer by committee, with Falkenborg being the main go-to guy.
Nippon Ham Fighters
Yuki Saito's next start could come on 8/2 against the Chiba Lotte Marines (at Sapporo Dome).
Sho Nakata will apparently continue to bat out of the clean-up spot for the time being. Said Masataka Nashida, "If he can drive in the runs in key situations and help the team win... He doesn't have to feel any responsibility [for batting fourth]."
Hisashi Iwakuma is still on schedule to make a start on the 27th against the Softbank Hawks (Yahoo Dome).
Senichi Hoshino told reporters that he plans on cutting back on practices during the hot summer months so that the players don't tire themselves out.
Masato Nakamura will be added to the active roster today (he'll be taking Yosuke Hiraishi's spot).
