Softbank Hawks

Sho Iwasaki recorded his first career shutout tonight and did it without striking out any batters.  That's a first since Kip Gross (Nippon Ham) in 7/4/1995.

Nippon Ham Fighters

Yuki Saito threw 39 pitches (21 from the set position) in the bullpen during practice yesterday.  It was his first session since the All-Star break.

Bobby Scales blasted a grand slam yesterday against the Orix Buffaloes and became the first foreign player to hit 2 grand slams in one month since Alex Ramirez (Yomiuri) in April 2010 (and the first Fighter since Shinji Takahashi in March 2005).  He's also the fourth foreigner to hit 2 grand slams in one month in his first year (first in the PL).  The other three: Jay Ward (Chunichi) in June 1966, Willie Kirkland (Hanshin) in August 1968, and John Sipin (Taiyo) in July 1972.

Sho Nakata struck out twice in the 4th inning yesteryday and became the first player in franchise history to do so since Toshihiro Noguchi in 1999.

The Fighters are 4,000-4,371-320 and 566-470-19 since their move to Hokkaido in 2004.  They are also the 7th team to record 4,000 victories.

Orix Buffaloes

The Buffaloes announced that former players Koji Ota and Keishi Suzuki will be throwing out ceremonial pitches on 8/12th and 8/14, respectively.  This is be a part of their turn-back-the-clock festivities (8/12-8/14 and 8/26-8/28) where they'll also be wearing retro Kintetsu uniforms (1974-1977).

Rakuten Eagles

The Eagles hit into 4 double players tonight.
