PL News and Notes: Jose Castillo (LOT) extends hit hitting streak to 19 games

Softbank Hawks

Hiroki Kokubo was hit by a pitch on the left side of his back during his at bat in the 7th inning and replaced by a pinch-runner.  His status for today in uncertain.  At worst, he could be taken off the active roster.

Yhency Brazoban held his second bullpen session in as many days yesterday and threw a total 39 pitches.  As of now, he's scheduled to pitch in 2 Ni-gun games: once on the 6th or 7th (vs Orix) and once on the 9th (vs Chunichi).

Seibu Lions

Masamitsu Hirano punched himself a ticket back to Ni-gun by losing his 4th straight start last night.  In those 4 starts: 21.1 IP, 27 H, 8 SO, 7 BB, 16 R, 15 ER.

Chiba Lotte Marines

Yuki Karakawa worked out at Sapporo Dome yesterday (ran, played some catch) in preparation for his start today.  He also told reporters that his shoulder was feeling fine and that he just wanted to get back on the mound.

Jose Castillo extended his hitting streak to 19 games last tonight (30-for-78, 10 R, 2 HR, 13 RBI).

Masahiro Tanaka's next start will likely come on the 7th vs Nippon Ham.

Hisashi Iwakuma played catch at a distance of about 40 meters during practice at Kleenex Stadium yesterday.  It seems Iwakuma felt some stiffness in his lower back / hip after his last start on 8/3 and spent some time checking on how he was feeling yesterday.  As of now, Iwakuma isn't expected to miss any time because of his back.
