8/16/2011: Ichiro Suzuki, Hideki Matsui, Tsuyoshi Nishioka

Seattle Mariners 6 - Toronto Blue Jays 5
Ichiro Suzuki started in right and batted first.  He went 0-for-3: ground out to second, sac fly to left, ground out to the pitcher, fly out to left.

Baltimore Orioles 6 - Oakland A's 2
Hideki Matsui started in left and batted third.  He went 1-for-4: ground out to short, single to right, ground out to short, fly out to right.

Minnesota Twins 9 - Detroit Tigers 6
Tsuyoshi Nishioka started at short and batted ninth.  He went 0-for-3: reaches on E4, strikeout looking, fly out to center, sac bunt. Nishioka's hitting streak also ended at 9.

Texas Rangers 8 - LA Angels 4
Koji Uehara entered the game in the bottom of the 7th with 1 out and the Rangers up 8-4.  Uehara got the final two outs of the inning and also tossed a shutout 8th. Final line: 1.2 IP, 6 BF, 17-14 NP-S, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO, 0 HR.

Hisanori Takahashi entered the game in the top of the 4th with 1 out and the Angels down 2-1.  Takahashi got out of the inning without any problems, but could only manage to get 1 of the next 5 batters he faced.  He ultimately left the game in the top of the 5th with the score 5-1, 1 out and a runner on first.  Final line: 1 IP, 7 BF, 23-16 NP-S, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO, 0 HR.


Daily Sports is reporting that the Oakland A's and Seattle Mariners could open the 2012 season in Japan.  According to the sources, the team would play two games in Japan, similar to the way the Boston Red Sox and Oakland A's opened the season in 2008.
