Former Central League Umpire Kiyoshi Hirako died of lung cancer on the 9th in a Minatoku, Tokyo hospital. He was 73.
Hirako became a Central League umpire in 1965. He was also the CL's umpiring crew's assistant director between 1990 and 1992. Hirako umpired 5 Nippon Series and 7 All-Star games; he worked a total 3,061 games over his career, good for 14th on the All-time list.
