I was out on a walk just a little while ago and the front page of the Tokyo Chunichi Sports newspaper caught my eye.
That's Yu Darvish in three different baseball caps with the words Yankees, R. Sox, and Rangers written next to him. On the right:
Yankees, Red Sox, Rangers: which hat does he look best in? The three teams most likely to land Daru.
There's also mention of Darvish hiring Arn Tellem and Don Nomura to represent him. As for why... Nomura is obviously well known for helping Japanese players cross-over to the Majors. And Tellem helped Nomura find the "voluntary retirement" loophole in Hideo Nomo's contract. Additionally, Nomura will apparently handle everything in Japan while Tellem handles Darvish's affairs in the US.
Regarding his posting situation, the paper goes on to say that he told Yuki Saito during a dinner they had earlier this year that he was planning on staying with the Fighters one more year. And according to someone close to Darvish, he also said that he was finding it hard to stay motivated.
The article also mentions other teams like the Mets, Dodgers, and Blue Jays, but only as teams that are interested in Darvish, not as realistic players since they most likely won't be able to afford him (the paper figures it'll cost about US$80M).
