The media learned yesterday that the Yakult Swallows will most likely take Shohei Tateyama off the active roster today due to an unspecified injury.
While Tateyama has been traveling with the team, he was scratched from his last start on 8/18. Tateyama told reporters after Thursday's game it had nothing to do with his conditioning and that it was something that had been decided earlier on. Whether or not that still holds true isn't entirely known.
UPDATE @ 8:23pm - It seems Tateyama was taken off the active roster because of discomfort in his right middle and ring fingers. There's no set timetable for his return at this time -- they'll just check on his progress on a daily basis and go from there.
UPDATE 8/21 @ 1:36pm - Chief trainer Katsuhiko Kobayashi gave reporters a little more information yesterday:
"He felt some discomfort in his right fingers. Around the third and fourth digits. It was also affecting his pitching. ... It isn't like he banged it [against something]."
The Swallows are currently worried that something might be blocking the flow to his fingers.
