8/22/2011: Ichiro Suzuki, Hideki Matsui, Kosuke Fukudome

Tampa Bay Rays 8 - Seattle Mariners 7
Ichiro Suzuki started in right and batted first.  He went 1-for-5: ground out to second, ground out to third, GIDP, single to center, strikeout swinging.  With 37 games remaining, Ichiro needs 62 hits to make 200.

Toronto Blue Jays 1 - Oakland A's
Hideki Matsui was the starting DH and batted fourth.  He went 0-for-4: ground out to short, strikeout swinging, strikeout looking, ground out to third.  Matsui's hitting streak also ended at 6 games.

Detroit Tigers 8 - Cleveland Indians 7
Kosuke Fukudome started in right and batted sixth.  He went 2-for-4: ground out to second, ground out to short, single to left, single to left, walk.

New Yankees 3 - Minnesota Twins 0
Tsuyoshi Nishioka entered the game as a pinch-runner for Jim Thome in the bottom of the 8th.  And although he didn't get any at bats, he did stay in the game as the DH.


Syracuse Chiefs 7 - Pawtucket Red Sox 4
Junichi Tazawa entered the game in the top of the 3rd with 1 out, no one on, and Pawtucket down 6-0.  Tazawa retired all 8 batters he faced through 2.2 innings of work.  Final line: 2.2 IP, 8 BF, 33-21 NP-S, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO, 0 HR.

Hideki Okajima entered the game in the top of the 6th, with Pawtucket down 6-1, and tossed 2 shutout innings. Final line: 2 IP, 8 BF, 37-23 NP-S, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO, 0 HR.


Tsuyoshi Nishioka on his status on the 21st:

I was prepared, so I wasn't surprised about being called on as a pinch-runner.  I was actually planning on play, but the manager said I take another day off.

Nishioka will probably return to the starting line-up on the 22nd.
