Kei Igawa entered the game in the bottom of the 6th with a runner on first, 2 out and the Thunder down 7-1. Igawa retired the first batter he faced to get out of the inning without allowing a run. He then went on to toss a shutout 7th before leaving the game in the 8th with runners on first and second with 1 out. Final line: 1.2 IP, 8 BF, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO, 0 HR.
A couple of updates on Tsuyoshi Nishioka. A snip from an MLB.com article:
Nishioka will miss his second consecutive start after experiencing back spasms prior to Saturday's game.
"He was out there taking some ground balls, I think he went to throw the ball and felt something in his back. He got a little twinge in there. He should be fine," Gardenhire said.
Tsuyoshi Nishioka hasn't been in the lineup since Friday because of a sore lower back, oblique issue. He has been available off the bench and is expected to go through a full pregame workout Wednesday.
Twins shortstop Tsuyoshi Nishioka was available off the bench after missing three games with pain in his lower back and oblique area. Nishioka hit in the cage and took grounders before the game without any issues.
