Tony Blanco started taking BP again on the 20th after his cast came off on the 17th. Blanco spent about 40 minutes taking BP today at Nagoya Stadium and is hoping to get back into the action as soon as possible. Depending on his his practice sessions go moving forward, he could play in his first Ni-gun rehab game as early as the 26th. Assuming no setbacks after that, he could return to the active roster sometime in early September.
Takumi Akiyama tossed 2 perfect innings in a Ni-gun game against Orix today. He also struck out 3.
The Swallows announced that FC Tokyo (soccer team) president Kenji Akune will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch on the 30th (vs Hiroshima at Jingu).
Jun Hirose was taken off the active roster on the 20th with tightness in his right hamstring. And he currently needs 40 more days on the active roster in order to earn his domestic FA option. Since the club has already accepted the injury as taking place during a game, Hirose will be able to take advantage of the Injury Exception Provision that will allow him to transfer the amount of time he can't play (from the time he's taken off the active roster until he plays in his first rehab Ni-gun game) to his total active days. This means Hirose should still be able to earn his domestic FA option this season.
