Chunichi Dragons

Last night, Enyelbert Soto became the first foreign Central League pitcher to go 5-0, from the start of the season, during his first year in the league.

The NPB record of 6 is held by three PL pitchers: Leo Kiely (1953 with Mainichi), Brian Falkenborg (2009 with Softbank), and Bill Murphy (2010 with Lotte).  There is also one other pitcher with 5: Chris Gissell (2006 with Seibu).

Motonobu Tanishige started at first last night for the first time in his pro career.  According to Sponichi, it came in his 2,587th game, which breaks Kazuyoshi Tatsunami's record of playing first for the first time in his 2,583rd games.

Hanshin Tigers

The Tigers finished their road trip nightmare 9-9-2.

Kyuji Fujikawa became just the 8th pitcher in NPB history to record 100 holds (although he is the first to record 100 holds and at least 100 saves).

Craig Brazell started receiving treatment (about 2 hours) for his right biceps femoris muscle injury at the Naruohama training facilities yesterday.  He later said to reporters, "I still feel discomfort.  I'm guessing physical exercises will be added to my workouts within a couple/few days.  I don't know when I'll be able to return, but I'll continue working on getting better with help from the trainers."

Brazell will probably continue focusing on treatments for a couple more days before moving onto a full-fledged rehab program.

Naoto Tsuru started a Ni-gun game against Orix yesterday and gave up 2 runs on 6 hits over 6 innings of work.

Yomiuri Giants

The Giants decided to demote Levi Romero after his shaky outing last night (0 IP, 2 BF, 2 H, 0 SO, 0 BB, 1 R, 1 ER).

Hiroshima Carp

Yuya Fukui became the first Carp starter to record a complete game victory in his first year since Hiroki Kuroda and Toshikazu Sawazaki in 1997.  His 6 wins also puts him in a first place tie for rookie pitchers this season.
