Yakult Swallows: Shohei Tateyama thinking about offseason surgery

by on Aug.26, 2011 @ 1:34 pm, under NPB

The media learned yesterday that Shohei Tateyama is considering offseason surgery (right elbow and lumbricales muscles in his right hand) as a means to address the discomfort he has been feeling in his right hand and fingers (middle and ring; he was diagnosed as having a blood flow problem).  As for plans during the current season, Tateyama is scheduled to pitch in a Ni-gun game on the 30th.  He's also shooting for a return to a the active roster sometime in mid-September.

Tateyama has gone under the knife on three other occasions: he had right shoulder surgery in Spring of 2002 (while in college); right elbow surgery in 3/2004 (snapped ligament); and a second right elbow surgery in 11/2005 (to correct ring and pinky finger responses).
