The Ehime Mandarin Pirates set a Guinness World Record for most ceremonial first pitches at one time.

The Pirates posted a message at their home page asking for volunteers to participate in a mass ceremonial first pitch attempt on Friday (8/27) at Botchan Stadium.  A total 236 fans (mostly kids it seems) participated in the event to create 118 pairs of pitchers and catchers.

The rules, as set forth by the Guinness Book of World Records:

Catcher and pitcher must be 10 meters apart

Pitchers must throw the ball at the exact same time in order to qualify

50 or more sets must accomplish this feat in order for it to become a new record

In the end, a total 111 pairs succeeded in throwing the ball at the exact same time, setting a new Guinness World Record.
