Ryoji Aikawa had his right thumb examined yesterday and was diagnosed with fissure fracture in the distal phalanx of his right thumb, as well as avulsion fracture. He was also told that it would take about 6 weeks for a full recovery. Despite all that, Aikawa plans on getting a plastic cover for the finger so that he can continue playing.
"I wanted to play if possible, so I checked on my option," said Aikawa. "The decision lies with the manager and the coaches, but I really want to do what I can to help the team."
The Swallows won't be taking Aikawa off the active roster for now.
Aikawa suffered the fractures when he took a Kyohei Muranaka wild pitch off his right thumb.
