8/31/2011: Ichiro Suzuki, Hideki Matsui, Kosuke Fukudome

Ichiro Suzuki started in right and batted first.  He went: 1-for-5: fly out to left, ground out to first, GIDP, 2-run single to right, fly out to left.  Ichiro now needs 46 hits in 28 games to reach 200 and has hit safely in 13 straight games.

Cleveland Indians 6 - Oakland A's 2
Hideki Matsui started in left and batted third.  He went 2-for-4: single to right, single to left, ground out to second, ground out to short.  This was Matsui's 29th multi-hit game of the season.

Kosuke Fukudome started in right and batted second.  He went 1-for-4: ground out to short, 2-run double (25) to right, strikeout looking, ground out to short.

Chicago White Sox 8 - Minnesota Twins 6
Tsuyoshi Nishioka started at short and batted ninth.  He went 1-for-4: lint out to left, infield single (run scored), ground out to third, strikeout swinging.

Los Angeles Dodgers 8 - San Diego Padres 5
Hiroki Kuroda started the game and gave up 4 runs over 7 innings of work.  He also picked up his 11th victory of the year (11-14).  Final line: 6 IP, 26 BF, 110-71 NP-S, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO, 2 HR.

Florida Marlins 6 - New York Mets 0
Ryota Igarashi entered the game in the top of the 7th (runners on first and second, 1 out, and the Mets down 4-0) and allowed one of two inherited runners to scores before getting out of the inning.  He also tossed a shutout 8th.  Final line: 1.2 IP, 7 BF, 25-18 NP-S, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO, 0 HR.


The SF Chronicle's Susan Slusser reports that the Philadelphia Phillies might be interested in Hideki Matsui.  A snip:

Hideki Matsui is a potential waiver-trade candidate, and at least the Phillies, a contender with a need for an extra bat, had a high-level talent evaluator at Cleveland on Monday.
