Softbank Hawks

The media learned Thursday that Brian Falkenborg will be away from the team for 3 days beginning Friday (9/2) so that he can be with his family.  He will rejoin the team on 9/5.

Toshiya Sugiuchi will likely start Friday's game (9/2) against the Seibu Lions (at Seibu Dome) on 5 days of rest (he was knocked out early during his last start).

Nagisa Arakaki started a Ni-gun game against Orix on Thursday and gave up 3 runs (including a solo homer) during 5 innings of work.

Nippon Ham Fighters

Yu Darvish now has four 200+ strikeout seasons under his belt: 2007 (210), 2008 (208), 2010 (222), and 2011 (206).  That's the most in franchise history.  The previous franchise record of 3 was set by Masayuki Dobashi: 1958 (222), 1959 (217), and 1961 (298).

He's also apparently a fan of Vitargo.

Orix Buffaloes

The Buffaloes announced on Thursday that Osaka mayor Kunio Hiramatsu won't be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch before Friday's (9/2) game against the Nippon Ham Fighters (at Kyocera Dome).
