The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's Rob Biertempfel notes the Pirates' interest in Hisashi Iwakuma. A snip:
The Pirates are scouting right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma, a 30-year-old starting pitcher with Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in the Japanese Pacific League. "It's part of our blanket coverage of international scouting," GM Neal Huntington said. The Oakland A's last year paid $19.1 million to negotiate with Iwakuma but got their money back after talks broke down. Despite battling a sore shoulder this season, Iwakuma could be one of the top free-agent pitchers this offseason.
