The Dragons drew a season low 23,441 on Tuesday night. It also set a new low for a game against the Giants at Nagoya Dome since attendance records were first published in 2005.
Maximo Nelson tied both an NPB record for foreign pitchers and a franchise record with his 9th straight loss on Tuesday night.
In becoming the first Tiger to win 10 games this season, Randy Messenger also became the first foreign Tiger (4th overall) since Matt Keough in 1989 to accomplish the feat.
Craig Brazell started working out outdoors on Tuesday -- BP, fielding practice, jogging. Brazell took a total 49 swings during BP and hit 10 over the fence. If there aren't any setbacks, Brazell could play in his first rehab game on the 10th (vs Ni-gun Hiroshima).
Tetsuya Utsumi could become the first Yomiuri Giant pitcher to lead the league in wins since Seth Greisinger in 2008 with 17 wins. Utsumi could also become just the third left-handed pitcher in franchise history to accomplish the feat. The other two: Hiroshi Nakao with 27 in 1948 and Kazumi Takahashi with 22 in 1948.
If Utsumi leads the league in both victories and ERA, then that will make him the first Giant to do so since Koji Uehara in 1999 and just the second left-handed pitcher in franchise history since Nakao in 1948.
Team chairman Tsuneo Watanabe is apparently a fan of the Yakult Swallows:
I'd rather see the Yakult win than Chunichi. I'm a Yakult fan after all. Sumi-san (Yakult Swallows' owner Sumiya Hori) and me, we're close. Inside, I'm thinking, if Yomiuri can't win, then please, Yakult win.
Hisayoshi Chono wore sunglasses during his at bats on Tuesday night against the Chunichi Dragons at Tokyo Dome. Seems he did it just to mix things up a bit (he usually wears the sunglasses while on defense at outdoor stadiums).
Shohei Tateyama joined the Ichi-gun team for practice on Tuesday. Tateyama could be added back to the active roster sometime over the next few days (in time to pitch against either the Yokohama Bay Stars or Hanshin Tigers). Sponichi figures he'll get a start on the 9th vs Hanshin.
