Japan Student Baseball Association hands down sentences [9/8/2011]

The Japan Student Baseball Association met on the 8th to determine punishments for 25 cases.

Game Suspensions

Tsudanuma (Chiba) - 3 months beginning on 7/20 - shoplifting, riding public transportation without paying for a fare

Yamazoe (Yamagata) - 3 months beginning on 7/28 - violence within the club, smoking

Ino (Mie) - 3 months beginning on 8/29 - shoplifting

Takasaki Shoka DaiFu (Gunma)  - 3 months beginning on 9/1 - smoking, shoplifting

Kashiwai (Chiba) - 1 month beginning on 7/27 - bullying within the club

Urayasu (Chiba) - 1 month beginning on 7/30 - violence within the club

Fujimi (Nagano) - 1 month beginning on 8/7 - violence within the club

Hieizan (Shiga) - 1 month beginning on 8/29 - violence within the club

Suspensions

Jonan Shizuoka (Shizuoka) manager - indefinite beginning on 7/30 - violence within the club

Sozo Gakuen (Nagano) manager - 1 year beginning on 7/25 - violence within the club

Hieizan (Shiga) director - 6 months beginning on 9/1 - delay in filing report

Hieizan (Shiga) director - 3 months beginning on 9/1 - violence within the club

Tsudanuma (Chiba) manager - 6 months beginning on 7/27 - delay in filing report

      Physical abuse as a form of punishment is still fairly prevalent in Japan. Actually, I don’t want to make any sweeping generalizations, so I’ll back down from that and simply say that Masumi Kuwata wrote a dissertation on physical abuse in amateur baseball as still being a problem that needed to be addressed.

      And up until a short while ago, it was fairly prevalent at the pro level as well.
