PL News and Notes: Toshiya Sugiuchi (SOF) will probably get 2 more starts against Fighters in September
Starters Toshiya Sugiuchi, Tsuyoshi Wada, and Tadashi Settsu worked out at QVC Marine on Thursday. They were joined by relievers Mu-Young Kim and Yohei Yanagawa. Position players and other relievers had the day off.
Sugiuchi will likely start at least 2 games against the Nippon Ham Fighters this month: 9/16 and 9/27. So he'll get 6 days of rest after today's start against the Chiba Lotte Marines before his next start on the 16th and will then get 10 days off before his start on the 27th.
It seems the Hawks won't rush Takahiro Mahara back to the active roster since they have a 7 game lead in the standings.
Takeya Nakamura recorded his 38th homer of the season last night (5th in September) and is now on pace to hit 49.
The Yusei Kikuchi lunch box has been selling well at Seibu Dome -- about 1,000 have so far been sold over a period of 5 games.
Chiba Lotte Marines
Atsushi Kobayashi was demoted to Ni-gun today after he gave up 6 runs (all earned) on 7 hits over 3 innings of work last night. Kobayashi also suffered his 4th loss in his 5th start of the year.
The Marines announced that Tomohisa Otani's wife gave birth to the couple's first child, a boy weight 3,000 grams, at a hospital in Hachinohe, Aomori on the 7th.
Nippon Ham Fighters
Atsunori Inaba visited the Miyagi prefectural offices today to donate the money he won for winning the MVP award (3 M yen) during game 3 of the All-Star series this year to the Miyagi Youth Sports group.
Knock on wood: Shinichiro Koyama has not allowed a run in his last 11 appearances (a span of 14 innings).
