Hisashi Iwakuma is set to earn his international FA option today. When asked about the option, Iwakuma replied, "We're in the middle of the season so it's not something I'm thinking about. I'm focused only on the team winning. It's possible I'll sit down with the club once the season ends."
According to those around Iwakuma, he's quietly making preparations to exercise the option during the off-season. If he exercises the option, he is expected to receive a number of MLB offers. The Minnesota Twins, San Francisco Giants, Arizona Diamondbacks, LA Angels, and Baltimore Orioles have all sent scouts to watch Iwakuma pitch this season.
Iwakuma is represented by Paul Cobbe of Sosnick Cobbe Sports.
UPDATE 9/13 @ 11:43am - The Pittsburgh Pirates are also interested in Iwakuma. Tyrone Brooks (Pirates' Director of Baseball Operations), along with a scout and a training coach, were spotted at Iwakuma's start on 8/30 (vs Seibu).
