CL News and Notes: Swallows just 1 tie away from tying franchise record for most ties in one season

Hanshin Tigers

Yamoto played a couple of innings out in center (took over in the bottom of the 7th) on Saturday for the first time in his career.  He did play some games in left and right last year.

Keisuke Kano got behind the plate in the bottom of the 8th on Sunday for the first time since 5/18/2010 (vs Softbank @ Yahoo Dome).

The media learned on Friday that Tomoaki Kanemoto hurt his flank while diving for a baseball in a game against the Yakult Swallows on the 11th.  This may have been part of the reason why he wasn't in the starting line-up against the Chunichi Dragons (9/13-9/15).  Kanemoto was back in the starting line-up on Saturday.

The Tigers decided to demote Yasutomo Kubo after he started Saturday's game and lasted just 1 inning while giving up 4 runs (all earned) on 6 hits and 1 strikeout.

Kazuya Tsutsui will probably take his place on the active rosterTakuya Akiyama could also get an Ichi-gun start on the 20th (vs Hiroshima at Mazda).  That will push Atsushi Nomi's start back to the 23rd (vs Yomiuri at Koshien).

It appears the front office is concerned about the lack of communication between some of the coaches and players.

Yomiuri Giants

On Saturday, for the 11th time this season, the Giants' lone run scored on a solo homer.

Michihiro Ogasawara played catch with a glove on his left for the second straight day on Saturday.  He also took soft-toss BP using his right hand.

Yakult Swallows

The Swallows are just 1 tie away from tying a franchise record for most ties in one season (16 ties, set in 1978 and 1981).

Yokohama Bay Stars

Yoshitomo Tsutsugo struck out 4 times, an Ichi-gun first for him, on Saturday.
