Tomoaki Kanemoto has a 2 homer game against the Hiroshima Carp

by on Sep.18, 2011 @ 10:11 pm, under NPB

A couple of interesting points about the 2 homers:

  • this was his first 2-homer game since 4/10/2009;
  • it gave him 11 homers on the year, which means he is now the 8th player in NPB history to record 18 consecutive double-digit homer seasons (going back to his third season in 1994);
  • he has now hit 225 homers in a Tigers' uniform, good for 5th in franchise history;
  • at 43 years and 5 months, he's also the oldest player to hit homers in back-to-back at bats (the previous high of 42 years, 7 months was set by Katsuki Tokura on 6/5/1957); and
  • while he isn't the oldest player to hit 2 homers in one game (that distinction belongs to Hiromitsu Kadota -- 44 years, 2 months on 5/20/1992), he is the oldest player in CL  history to hit 2 homers in one game (the previous high of 42 years, 7 months was set by Hiromitsu Ochiai on 6/21/1996).
