Both Masayoshi Son and acting owner Kazuhiko Kasai have instructed team director Itaru Kobayashi to do whatever needs to be done in order to keep Toshiya Sugiuchi. And that includes ignoring the salary assessment system the team started using last year.
Based on the stats Sugiuchi put up this year, the currently salary assessment system would most likely suggest a pay cut. But in order to keep him from exercising his FA option, the Hawks will probably have to offer him a raise instead.
Kasai joined contract negotiations last year when talks between Sugiuchi and Kobayashi broke down. If talks break down again this year, Son could end up being the one that gets involved.
