NPB commissioner Ryozo Kato threw out the ceremonial first pitch before Sunday's Asia Series game between the Softbank Hawks and the Perth Heat. He was also quoted as saying: "We need to continue to make things more international. It may sound like nothing but talk, but maybe in the future, we can also play the winner of the World Series."
Regarding the future Asia Series, he said, "We need to strengthen the connections. The population is decreasing not only Japan, but also in places like Korea. We need to attract the talented players to baseball."
UPDATE 11/28 @ 10:30am - Sponichi has the following, slightly different quote, from Kato: "For example, if the top two teams from each country participated, we can increase the overall number of games [for the Asia Series]. Or we can expand the series by increasing the host countries' slots. In the future, I would like to see a match-up against the World Series winner as well."
