Saburo could return to the Chiba Lotte Marines

by on Dec.01, 2011 @ 12:41 am, under NPB

Sponichi is reporting that the Chiba Lotte Marines are thinking about re-signing Saburo (acting team owner Akio Shigemitsu apparently wants him back).  But, he is a B-level free agent and that means the team will have to give the Yomiuri Giants either a player + 40% of his 2011 salary, or no player + 60% of his 2011 salary.

Lotte is expected to finalize their decision during a team development meeting that could take place as early as Thursday (12/1).

FYI: Saburo becomes just the 3rd player in Yomiuri Giants' history to leave the team during the same year they joined the team.  The other two: Hidekazu Mitsuyama and Kazuya Tabata.

UPDATE @ 8:57pm - Shigemitsu told reporters today that his impression of Saburo was that he was good at rallying the players together.

I have no idea where he would play. Lotte already has Okada/Ishimine/Kiyota/Ogino/Ohmatsu in the outfield. There’s no way Okada and Ishimine aren’t starting and it’s hard to imagine Ogino not getting the third spot if his knee’s healthy.
