The Chunichi Dragons held a press conference earlier today to officially introduce Morimichi Takagi as their new manager.
Takagi gets a 2-year deal worth 100M yen a year, a signing bonus of 50M yen, and the number 88.
UPDATE 12/3 @ 4:16am - Nikkan Sports has posted the following comments from Takagi's press conference:
What are your thoughts right now?
I was worried about my age. Dragons fans might want a new manager that is younger. I was worried about that. But so long as I have accepted this position, I need to do it. I can not be beat by a younger person.
What kind of baseball do you want your team to play?
The Dragons are a defensive team. They have a great pitching staff. We still have a lot of players that were involved in the consecutive first place finishes and the younger players are improving little by little. We will be fine if we can develop in key areas. My specialties are fielding and running. I would like to see our team take advantage of chances given to us by our opponents.
Will you proactively use young players?
[That might be] difficult. Because then it will by why they are regulars when all they have is youth. I do think they will have more opportunities than they did 2-3 years ago, so I would like them to approach this with the feeling that they are going to take away a starting job [from someone else].
