Nikkan Sports is carrying the following comment that GM Atsushi Harasawa made about Shuichi Murata and Toshiya Sugiuchi on Friday:
As I have said about Murata-kun before, when breaking down our team based on things we need, players leaving, injuries, stats, there are many issues that come up and I think he fills those areas as a player. We think he is a player we need in order to win a championship next season. It is the same with [Sugiuchi]. When thinking about areas [that need improvement], he fits as a solution. He is an accomplished player and again, if we want to win, he is a player we need. He is a player we want. We want to sign him.
Harasawa is also said to have reached out to Murata via telephone on Friday in order to tell him that the Giants were interested in signing him. The Giants are also scheduled to meet with Murata on Saturday (12/3).
Toshiya Sugiuchi spoke to reporters today for the first time since he announced he was going to exercise his FA option and said, "I would like to play for a team that wants me. I also want to play in an environment where I can concentrate on baseball."
Sugiuchi also said he was happy when he learned from his agent that the Giants were interested in signing him.
