Nippon Ham Fighters

Hideki Kuriyama was asked to put together a starting line-up during his Hokkaido TV Broadcasting appearance on Wednesday and placed Sho Nakata in the lead-off spot.  When asked why, he replied, "Batters can change their approach based on where they hit in the line-up. ... I am thinking off all kinds of line-ups.  I am thinking everything is a possibility and will eliminate options over time.  I just revealed a little of what I have in my head."

Reporters later asked Nakata for comment: "What?  Me?  Lead-off? ... I have never batted lead-off.  It would be interesting to try."

Kuriyama is also curious in seeing how Yoshio Itoi would react batting in the two-hole.

Yuki Saito told fans during a talk session on Wednesday that he did not have any plans to get married at the moment.

Orix Buffaloes

Tomotaka Sakaguchi met with the Buffaloes on Thursday and placed their 130M yen (up 30M yen) offer on hold.  Said Sakaguchi, "They gave me a good offer and they told me I did a good job.  But there is a little bit of a gap between what they offered and what I want so I want a little time to think it over.  I would like to be satisfied when I sign. ... If they can look at the intangibles, the things that do not show up in the numbers, if they can consider those areas."

Rakuten Eagles

Masahiro Tanaka was presented with Sports Nippon Newspaper's 2011 Super Play Award on Wednesday.
