Nikkan Sports is carrying the following comments taken during Kazuyuki Hoashi's press conference on Thursday:
You finished your discussions [with the Softbank Hawks]...
They asked me to come to Softbank and I could feel they were being sincere. It may be me happy.
What kinds of things did you talk about?
That they wanted me to play for them. And that they not only liked me as a baseball player, but also as a person.
Did you talk about contract terms?
It is results based, which is a first for me. It still has not registered. I think it is a system that provides motivation.
What is your impression of Softbank?
They are Nippon Series champs. They have a strong team.
Any thoughts [on what you might do]?
I just received the offer today. It is still new [to me].
What will be the deciding factor?
Whether or not they need me. I want to play somewhere I can be passionate about playing.
Will you speak to any other teams?
When do you plan to decide by?
I would like to make a decision before the end of the year.
To recap: The Hawks reportedly offered Hoashi a four-year deal that could be worth as little as around 400M yen and as much as about 1B yen. He was also given the option of four different uniform numbers, which did not include the numbers 21 (Tsuyoshi Wada) and 47 (Toshiya Sugiuchi).
