Acting owner Kazuhiko Kasai told reporters on Sunday that he wanted to clear any misunderstandings Toshiya Sugiuchi had about the team. He also said that he did not talk to Suiguchi about staying during the parade because it was not the appropriate time or place. Kasai then added that he hoped Suiguchi heard all the fans shouting for his return.
Daily Sports reports that when they asked 100 fans that attended Sunday's parade about Sugiuchi's status, 84 supported his decision to stay and 16 supported his decision to stay. Amongst the reasons:
To leave: "The front office is doing bad things and I would like them to consider what Sugiuchi is saying"; and "I would like him to stay, but if he has the desire..."
To stay: "He is from Fukuoka and I do not want to see him leave"; and "He should think this through with a clear head."
Sugiuchi's agent is expected to meet with the Hawks soon and may end up informing the team that his client has decided to leave.
