Toshiya Sugiuchi decides to join the Yomiuri Giants

by on Dec.18, 2011 @ 11:40 am, under NPB

The media learned on Saturday that Toshiya Sugiuchi decided to join the Yomiuri Giants and is planning to inform the team of his decision on Monday (12/19).  And it appears that his salary negotiations with the Softbank Hawks last season had a lot do with his decision to leave.

They are hated for many of the same reasons the New York Yankees are hated — fair-weather fans, being the richest team, buying up talent.

Also, they are owned by a right-wing newspaper and their fans are mostly conservative supporters of the LDP. And they control the league, forcing rule changes to give their team advantages.

Yup, they are that hateful. It would be great for NPB if they entered an extended period of irrelevance, and if the other 11 teams would grow some stones and stand up to Yomiuri management now and then.
